First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Hey Dion. My 2 cents on heads... I did a ton of research on every web site I could find for months before I ported a set of 6X heads. If you want to learn all about Pontiac heads get the Jim Hand book on building performance Pontiacs. With over 3500 runs on Pontiacs and tests on almost every conceivable Pontiac head and parts he recommends the 6X as good heads for a 455. I have a nice set of 62's but on the recommendation of the book and my machinist, they would have rendered to much compression to be streetable on pump gas, which I wanted. Yes if I had the money, I would have gone with the edelbrocks. But they start at 2 grand here in Canada and that was out of my budget. Even after purchasing the used heads, getting them tanked, crack-checked, machined flat, valve seat work and guides, new exhaust valves and springs I have around a grand in them. Yes, I did spend a hundred hours on the porting and assembly but that was my choice and I enjoy that kind of work. The Hand book takes you through it step by step and my machinist said they looked great, and I have the satisfaction of doing it myself. Take all the opinions with "a grain of salt" and do what you want, and can afford. Geez Joe.. I got the turd cam AND the 6X heads... I am going to find something I did that you like one of these days.. :-)
