I am trying to not have to re-create more than a hundred templates that I've inherited from my predecessor. In another posting I mentioned that I was getting "black boxes" as part of the printout for our iGen3. I believed that it had to do with transparency issues inside the existing template. I posted my question to this forum and someone else responded back saying that they got those results as well and it was a transparency issue for them also.
I went back to the original artwork and remade the background pdf files for the template (containing all 15 postcard backs and fronts) using a distiller setting for a PDF 1.3 version (back before transparency was allowable with Acrobat) and then re-imported the FusionPro template layout text and graphic boxes back onto this new set of cards. The new printout of the same data files appeared all correctly with no black boxes. So indeed it was a transparency issue with the iGen3 rip or the machine itself. We are talking with Xerox about this and why it happened. In then mean time... Rather than having to go through this same process with the 100 or so templates that I inherited from my predecessor, I was hoping (nay praying and pleading) that an "output distiller" setting could be changed inside FusionPro to alter it to this PDF 1.3 version so the transparency issue won't show up for us again. --- David A. If you compose to PDF output (or one of its variants such as VDX), FusionPro creates the PDF directly, without any intermediate PostScript or EPS. The only time that an EPS to PDF conversion comes into play with a PDF-based output format is to convert EPS graphics. If you compose to a PostScript-based output format and click "View as PDF" in the Composition Status dialog, then FusionPro invokes Distiller to convert the output from PostScript to PDF, but this conversion is not technically part of the composition.
