Hmm, as said I run (and have always ran) my own compiled version (CVS head) of fvwm it doesn't seem likely, but it just might be the problem.

But I agree with Thomas, it is very strange this behaviour only shows up with xterms.

Perhaps something to do with the Xresources? (Thomas?)

Good idea, though I observe these problems still quite some time across
