Seriously speaking, whether or not the Ipad can do multitasking is
completely beside the point. It is not a full-fledged computer, nor
does it pretend to be. Instead, it is a niche device, with a niche
market in mind.

My netbook cannot stream Netflix movies (paradoxically, it cannot
install the necessary Silverlight plug-in because this one thinks it
is a G4 computer, even though it's running Snow Leopard), among other
things. Does it make it less useful? Nope. It's meant to be toted
around for email, Internet browsing, and writing. It would be nice if
it could also stream Netflix movies, or give me a neck massage, or
toast bread. (Although you can easily toast bread in a Wallstreet.
Those old beasts sure run hot.)
