Outlook is also made my Microsoft. So you'll need to change mail reader software too. This was just posted to another list by Mike Gingold, looks like hotmail will be working again on Outlook sometime in the future.
Update - I have received an email from Microsoft: < As a result of October 25th's security update to the MSN Hotmail site, Mac Outlook users and Mac Entourage users will not be able to access their accounts via either of these applications. We would like to advise you to view your account via your browser at www.hotmail.com until Mac Outlook and Mac Entourage release an update to accommodate these new security settings.
