Jean-Jacques,

Try booting from the OSX software install CD and run the Repair Permissions part of Disk Utilities. That cured my problems of the disks/partitions not showing up on the desktop.

My girlfriend's G4 tower (digital audio, OS X.2.6) has gone headless. At least that's what it looks like. No hard drive icons for any of her 6 partitions (across three hard drives) were showing on her desktop a couple of days ago. ...snip...

The funny thing is, the computer seems to be working fine other than that. Apps, chat, burning CDs, all work.
