Ok when you say Norton did not find any problems, was the harddrive being
mounted/recognized? My beige 333 was having such problem on a harddrive
formatted with who knows what and running 8.6. I say "who knows what" cause
I bought the drive with it, but she just disliked (for some reason) the
driver or the format, whatever. Get the OS CD, and reinstall OS (updating
the drivers in the proccess) since I can't unsderstand much of the
explanation you gave at the end. Well, reading it again sounds like when you
hook the harddrive (and booting from the CD) the computer just hangs
(probably on ram check)? is that so?

If your G3 has gotten to the point that she just doesn't like your drive
(corruption of drivers and such) anymore (I don't know but my G3 still hates
certain SCSI devices where she just hangs on RAM check) no ID problem at all
but I think it could be something from the PCI SCSI board. Rather than tell
you that that's your problem I'll say that I've never solved this problem on
mine and I had to learn to live with it, the drives my computer rejects I
just don't use. My 8500 still takes them, this is SO ODD that this is
happening for the first time in my YEARS of working with macs, it may just be
a bug on the rom (?) that people don't USUALLY experience but that is
possible under some circumstances even though the drives are OK, fine, dandy,
no prob but the machine just wont take it

being that the case can't you install drivers to the drive without having to
erase it's contents on another Mac and bring it back to this one to see if it
helps? I strongly suggest it.

Lil
