Thanks, Hamlin, but the cable is not the problem because when I choose the 'MacOS' boot option, I boot into the OS9 (second) partition of the said internal drive. I really (as an amateur) suspect some files in the OSX system folder (or what passes for such) that tell the ROM (a physical DIMM) to recognize the HDD driver (among other things). And Jim, I heard Apple will discontinue supporting the Beige series next year so don't expect much. Hamlin, my config is: Beige DT Rev.A, 768 MB Ram, 400 MHz Mercury CPU from OWC. Cheers George
