Although I agree Apple has engaged in plenty of sleazy practices, I think
probably the worst of them have been directed at dealers rather than
comsumers.

However, the use of different components in different runs of the same
machine isn't usually any kind of tactic to force anything...it's usually
because either a better and/or cheaper component is available, or the
previous component is no longer available.

Sometimes, it isn't even cheaper...think of the older Macs that originally
shipped with one SIMM slot, and then the newer versions of the same model
shipped with 2 slots.

There are lots of similar examples.

Feels odd to me to be defending Apple, because I really have no love for the
corporation at all.
