do you honestly believe that apple designs and manufacturers everything with an apple logo? no one does. there are many, many consumer items that are made by a handful of companies, and custom marked for the "brand" desired. for example, i doubt apple has ever, ever designed a monitor. at least most "apple" monitors are in fact made by other companies, possibly with some spec tweaking done by the real manufacturer for apple. this is good, monitor design is hard, and there are already enough people good at that. plus it means the parts are a lot more available for repair.
a more "neutral" example, "sears" has a lot of "sears" brand appliances, they are in fact all made by other companies, same with most if not all of their tools and everything else that says it's "sears". it's just marketing. i learned this very young, when touring the storage tech facility in boulder (with an employee), i saw them making tape drives with several other names on them, at the time i was in middle school and it made an impression. i've since been to enough oem sites to know the most if not all oems are more than happy to custom brand their stuff any way you like if you'll just order enough truck loads of it. most oems (Original Equipment ManufacturerS) are also willing to make slight design changes on a large enough order or even do new design work for you, though that same design work may show up in products they make for others in many cases, unless of course you pay extra for them to cut off their nose to spite their face.... better yet, the next time you buy soda pop, read the can, it will say something like "bottled at such and such under authority of a big soft drink company". even "generic" drugs are often made by the same or a different division of the company that came out with the brand name. marketing is nuts, it's really, really distorted and messed up a lot of things. if you fall for the brand loyalty thing, you've fallen for a scam. nearly everything is really a commodity item at some level, buy what's cheap and good, and ignore the label, unless you like paying $$ for labels, in which case you are an ideal consumer to many, and an ideal mark for marketing...
