apple probably does work with vendors on case design for monitors, but i'd bet you dollars to donuts that the DON'T have squat to do with the electronics design! to me, yeah, it's nice apple stuff comes in nice boxes, but i'm far, far more concerned about the electronics inside the box. the only reason i have ever, ever bought mac hardware was to run the mac os. yeah, macs are great, but mostly because of the os, the hardware has been consistently lagging for some time, sometimes lagging by a lot!
