The Sawtooth has four slots and can hold a maximum of 1536MB of RAM.

I understand Panther is pickier about RAM, and so you need to be sure to get good quality RAM. My friend who's a certified Apple genius recently recommended http://www.crucial.com for my new RAM. They have a "memory configurator" that tells you exactly what chips will work in your computer, and they guarantee it to be compatible, or your $$ back. I ordered what their configurator came up with, and it works perfectly.
