After sufferin' years with erratic dial up, Cricket, (USB
Modem), started covering the area last November of 2009. Best
signal strength was two and sometimes three bars. Service was
pretty dependable up until April of this year. Then it started
to go downhill finally failing completely a few days ago.
Modem would not mount as a CD on the Powerbook G4 1.25MHz.
After hanging up, decided to try it on the desktop, G4 400MHz
Gigabit and yep, it mounted there. (As an aside, the modem
contains the initialization/set up s/w. Only problem here is
that the Gigabit only has USB I as opposed to USB II on the
PowerBook.
Ok. So something is foo on the PowerBook. Other USB devices
work ok? Other USB mountable devices work ok? Finder is set to
display such volumes on your desktop?
Launch Console.app and set it to view the system log. Then plug
in the modem... and see what error messages get thrown.

Also... Note that LCC Scroll Enhancer is an evil InputManager,
known to cause all sorts of problems. As has been described in a
number of threads on this LEM list, you need to rip it out...
Search the list archives for "LCC Scroll Enhancer" for instructions.
Done!
Here's the system log beginning with a couple of lines before I
plugged the modem in. "com.devgure..." is when I plugged the modem
in. It's all Greek to me...
