This is why most tournament players play with only one, at most 3,
characters. They learn the characters inside out and learn each and
every move they have and each and every property associated with that
move. I will say though, it shocks me how many people don't realize
that it is very simple to counter Ryu's fireballs... either block
them, jump over them or simply use a move that gives you
invulnerability to projectiles but at the same time gets you close to
the opponent. Example. Yun's shoulder charge. And that's what I love
about the fighting games... the strategy and thinking required. You
don't get that in Rock band or MLB. Not as much, anyway.

Hi,
yeah, catching opponents off guard certainly is a good strategy
here. As far as I know, there are these standart moves with standart
characters which are commonly viewed as strong, weak or even sort of
unfair, because you could for example just stand far away from your
opponent with Ryu and bombard him with projectiles.
The trick here is, to find a remedy against these standart moves,
and you gave a good example there with Abel and Yun.
That's the thing I like about this game. You get a lot more out of
the game with strategic thinking and good knowledge of one or maybe
two special characters that you like playing than with mindless button mashing.
