No idea about the snails.

Have you considered using silkworms and letting them mature into moths. I
don't think these can fly anymore (cultivated for many centuries), but they do
move about. There are a few places that offer these as eggs or already hatched
caterpillars. If you have a mulberry tree nearby, your silkworm feeding
problems are solved. Otherwise there are prepared diets available for them.
