Rest assured that it will happen soon. I've really been waiting just
for two things:
a) Richard Gooch releasing a devfs patch for the latest 2.3 kernels
   (which is fullfilled over expectation - devfs is now part of the
    stock 2.3.46 kernel. Great news indeeed!) and
b) A "latest 2.3 kernel" that doesn't come with reports of dangerous
   things happening when running it.

I'll upgrade my machine this weekend and have a look at the new USB
stuff.
