All, this is incredibly difficult to respond to. I understand that hearing about Mozilla forcing someone to resign because he exercised his right to free speech is as big an insult as is possible from this direction.
The thing is, it's not true. Brendan made the decision that he wouldn't be able to be an effective leader of the organization. The board, while seeing that he was probably right, tried to keep him from quitting completely (he could have reverted to the position of CTO, we'd have been able to weather the thus-lessened storm) until he got angry with them. Consider how incredibly hard these last two weeks must have been for Brendan and his family, and it might seem more believable that he himself chose to step down. Upon hearing about his resignation, I think Mozilla as an organization and a community went numb with shock. Describing the organization's and community's reaction is beyond my capabilities, and I think you'd have a hard time believing me. Because why would you? You've heard about what's going on from sources you trust, and you don't have much reason to trust me. I don't even speak on behalf of Mozilla.
