Like some others who've posted here I fully support gay marriage, and as a California resident voted against Prop 8. That said I uninstalled Firefox today and will not be using it or any other Mozilla products in the future.
I find the Mozilla claim that Brendan Eich resigned without pressure unpersuasive; at odds with both non-Mozilla reporting and Mozilla's own public press release on the matter, which I found disingenuous. I cannot support a company that pressures someone to leave based on his private speech. What next? Should conservative CEO's start culling through political contribution lists and terminate employees who've donated to liberal candidates? Is it ok now for Sheldon Adelson to terminate democratic donors employed by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation because voting for higher taxes is contrary to his best interests? Is that kind of corporate conduct going to be ok now that the Mozilla precedent has been set? Either private speech, is respected and tolerated in the workplace, or all bet's are off and it becomes open season on "disagreeable" political speech in all companies. That would be a very bad place to end up, but seems to be the example set by Mozilla and related actors here. _______________________________________________ governance mailing list [email protected] https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/governance
