I think your assumption is based on a flawed assumption, namely that it was the pressure from the companies themselves that mattered. That is not the case. Rarebit hadn’t even publicly launched until this point, they’re an early-stage startup. What they did do was draw an immense amount of negative attention and reaction towards Brendan’s appointment. The story (and boycott demands) went viral, and attracted an immense amount of support. The sheer volume (and toxicity) of the reaction was terrible for all of us, none more so than Brendan. That’s what led him to step down. Even when he decided to step down as CEO, the board tried to convince him to stay in another role, and he decided it was better to leave completely.
