Hi Murali,

I also believe that "Consequences matter more than intentions". That
is the main reason for my concern. In fact I believe her intentions
are quite good, but as far as I have seen among people in Kerala, the
failure of the environmental activists have been in addressing the
real issues and giving all environmentalists a label of those who live
outside this world, those who live away from reality. As some sect who
do not care about people but cares about only monkeys.

I would not want that to happen to the Athirappilly struggle as well.
It is primarily a people's struggle. If it gets reduced to a "hug
trees" programme, I think it is quite bad a thing.

You have refered to Sugathakumari - Seethiaji spar. I am impressed
that you became aware of environmental issues following that spar, but
most people I have seen quote Seethi Haji even now when one raises
environmental issues.

So I feel that while Sugathakumari and the likes have "popularized"
environmental issues, they have popularized it in a way that it has
given a bad name to anyone who talks about environment.

Regards,

   -sudeep
