ANIVAR>> Moderation & Censorship are totally different terms. ANIVAR>> Censorship is not ANIVAR>> at all possible to work in the age of internet. The ANIVAR>> list seems to be ANIVAR>> completely unaware of the the meanings of moderation ANIVAR>> in online spaces.
sanil> In my mail on your moderation I had made two points. sanil> 1. The distinction between moderation and censorship sanil> is valid. sanil> 2. You are misusing that distinction. I questioned Point no.2 on another mail & the quote above. I had made following points 1. Censorship is not at all possible in online spaces ( i also provided a reference link. Please Recheck it.) 2. The methods & possibilities in Digital space cant be measured with the scale of Modernism So please study and Reply. I am interested in a discussion on it. I have written a Howto about how to circumvent censorship during the blanket block of blogs by indian state. You can use it for a primilinary reading. it is there on censorship wikia Sanil> A moderator may act tough when a certain sanil> violation involves the manipulative use of some sanil> specific feature of digital technology or media. sanil> Ensuring etiquette, moral cleansing are not the jobs sanil> moderators who are sensitive to the potential of the sanil> digital media undertake. As I clearly pointed in my last mail 1. The purpose here is not experimenting all features of digital media. I am using certain features of it for the functioning of this group 2. ICTs, (including Digital media) cant change the society. it is just a plain on top of vertical structures of society. 3. without addressing these vertical structures(Internet access, cast, class, gender etc) & their power we cant not even talk about list democracy (which you are talking about) Just look at an example: Ranjit is showing a hegemonic egoistic male identity in this list with 24/7 internet access(remember the reply to my questions earlier),. At the same time i have a friend who want to read/mail to the list. but she cant go anywhere because her child is not well Do you think you can create cyber democracy at this level with the potential of the digital media? On my last mail I clearly pointed the list is not for experimenting the potential of ICTs. So moderation becomes a needed function to shape the traffic & flamewars on a positive way that contributing to the purpose of list Anivar --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Green Youth Movement" group.
