I understand and empathize your point of view.  Let me just quote
something from a book I am reading (it is French):

  « Nous sommes entrés dans un temps où se tenir debout avec dignité
  devient un acte de résistance. Où choisir - chaque jour - de rester
  humain, de faire ce qu'on peut là où on est, de ne pas laisser la peur
  ou la colère tout emporter est un engagement radical »
