I don't know what they were profiling, but soft body armor doesn't work that way. If they were discussing trauma plates, then depending on the plate involved they might be correct. As for soft kevlar, look at it this way; imagine your jacket with a hole in the upper left corner of the front. Does the lower abdomen now suddenly loose any thermal protection offered by the jacket? No, and neither does Kevlar.
