Hmm, I'm now envisioning a cuff on the proximal arm with a ball-joint 
omnidirectional lever attached to a mobile plate with a hinge attached to the 
side of the body armor.  When the arm comes up to shooting position, the plate 
comes up to protect the armpit.

Also, I saw a special on bulletproof jackets about a year or two ago, which 
looked at the difficulties in developing a bulletproof vest that could 
effectively stop more than one shot-- that is any shot on any part of the vest, 
not necessarily even the same place.  Has that changed at all?
