Non-concealable body armor is worse, because it tends to be level III or IV, generally ceramic plates that are at least a centimeter thick, plus padding (metal is thinner but heavier). Also, increasing coverage is really heavy.

In any case, this is a lot of effort to go through, just to enable a stance which is not clearly useful. There is some reason to believe that the isoceles stance produces superior accuracy under combat conditions, which easily makes up for the difference in target area.
