Hello,

I havn't done a search for the official answer on this one, but I have
always gone with Case C. It has the least amount of rounding error -
however it does make adding levels to an ability later difficult to
recalculate. In that case - Case B may be a better choice.

Thanks,

Clint

Subject
[gurps] Pricing enhancements and limitations

Greetings,

I was gonna post this question on the Forums at SJGames, but the website
doesn't seem to be responding.... so here goes.

When purchasing a leveled advantage with enhancements and limitations, do
you apply the modifiers to the per-level cost, round off, then take
however
many levels? Or apply the modifiers to the per-level cost, buy up the
levels, then round off? Or do you buy up the levels, then apply the
modifiers?

For example:
Damage Resistance/20 (Force Field +20%, Super -10%)
Case A: DR per-level 5, +20%, -10% = 5.5 per-level = 6 per-level => 20
levels * 6 = 120
Case B: DR per-level 5, +20%, -10% = 5.5 per-level => 20 levels * 5.5 =
110
Case C: DR per-level 5 => 20 levels * 5 = 120, +20%, -10% => 110

It's only a difference of 10 points, but when you're making characters for
a
500 pt supers game it can add up quickly.

I've looked in both Basic Characters and Powers. Characters says "You can

apply any number of modifer to a trait. Total them to find the net
modifier, and then apply this modifier to the base cost of the trait." It

makes no mention of leveled traits, only the base cost. Powers doesn't
seem
to say anything on the matter (although I haven't done an exhaustive
search
yet).

Thank you in advance,
Chris J. Whitcomb
