Hello Johannes,

in case the game hasn't started yet: to foreshadow future events, as
a source of red herrings, and as general-purpose "panic button", let
the bride start to assemble her own retainers.

She lets her more timid or traditionalist ladies-in-waiting and maids
go, with a pension and a recommendation if she thinks of it, and gets
staff who could go on adventures with her.

* In the confusion, you can smuggle any number of real conspirators
into the castle. Who can blame a young girl for that error of
  judgement?

* Is there another "tomboy" girl or young woman among the daughters
of the Baron's knights? That would be her natural confidante and
ally. She invites her into the castle, to practice swordplay
instead of embroidery. This girl is probably the least likely
conspirator in the lot, but who knows?

* While she was a child, she probably had a governess/mentor/tutor,
perhaps a nun or elderly noblewoman. She lets her go, and gets an
experienced, fortyish mercenary captain as her "majordomo". This
woman could easily be retconned into a conspirator -- she is a
mercenary, but who paid her first?

* As her new "maid", she hires a swordswoman or perhaps a thief. She
might have gotten a little sword training before, but that was the
master of arms humoring the Baron's daughter, and now the sessions
get to a whole new level of realism. If she is a thief posing as a
'legitimate' hired sword, she could be blackmailed into all sorts
of conspiracies. Could she get into plots against the groom?

* Where did the money come from? Good question. Can the heir apparent
draw on some estate funds, while the old Baron is ill? Or can she
borrow it, based on her credit rating as the heir to a barony? Was
her creditor inspired by usurious interest rates, or are there
ulterior motives? Did she get a gift from a "well-meaning"
  relative, like the priest?

Regards,
Onno
