I have not yet any fixed ideas about the character of the flamen, he also
has not apeared in the campain yet, or who wants to remove him and for
what reason.
The flamen dialis had power of sanctuary for criminals. Some
conspirator wants the right guy in that position by the time
another plot matures, as insurance policy.
The flamen can sit in the senate. Either there is a vote
coming up where this one member counts, or something is
coming up where the current flamen would throw his moral
power into the debate.
I will not use the senate seat, since AFAIK at the time of my game, the
senate was a ceremonial body mostly.
My smallest problem is coming up with a reason, why someone wants a new
flamen. It can always be the reward for some ally.
the sanctuary idea is a good one though. It can also be used as vengance,
because the current flamen has given someone sanctuary.
My largest problem is, how to involve the pcs. I don't want to make them
suspects, since if 1-3 adventures later, one of them becomes suspected to
have murdered one of the 3 candidates for becoming the next flamen, the
theme might start to get overused.*
Someone might hire them as bodyguards, but i have used that quite often as
well, and if they are supposed to protect the flamen or the flaminica,
they are set up to fail, which is hard to GM, if you want to keep player
morale up.
Now they might in the course of bodyguard duty learn something henious
about the flamen, and thus set up some goat incident themselfs to punish
him, but i have to come up with something the flamen (or possibly the
flaminica) have done.
* If you remember the discussion from last year, the suspected pc will be
Ingrun, (she will also likely be on the roof en route to Minucia), the
murdered candidate will be Minucias husband.
