A DR around 10 and decent Hitpoints should make it very hard to take the
draft animal down, with handheld low tech weapons. If the animal already
has some non flexible armour (giant insect, fast giant turtle) it also
could become more feasable to put even more armour on in, so it does not
all have to be natrual armour.
GURPS Dinosaurs gives carnivores PD 2, DR 2, while herbivores go
as high as 3/5 or 4/6.
I know way too little about RL dinosaurs, to guess if any of them could be
used in such a fashion. I also don't know, with which it would be feasable
to enhance their natrual armour with metal one.
I would consider a feasable alien draft animal somewhat plausible, though
unlikely. A species from a High G world propably.
They would fit well in some fantasy backgrounds, where part of the armour
might be magical.
Propably you can write background neutral vehicles, with some
requirements, what draft animals need to be there.
The wagon circle sounds feasable too, i would not be too suprised if it
was historical though.
The Hussite Wagenburg, but it used some firearms. The historical
precedent is a problem -- I'd feel cheating if I didn't research
it to adopt or reject individual parts for in-setting reasons.
You could officially make it a vehicle based on the popular percenption of
the Hussite Wagenburg and describe it as such in the introducation.
Aiming for history as presented in teh movies, rather then history as it
actually happened, is in principle a legitimate approach, you just need to
be aware what you do and honest about it.
