The grav vehicles for the Evil Overlords are coming along nicely. The
next items on my list are vehicles for the poor oppressed peasants on
worlds beyond the gates. Some will be animal-drawn.

Looking at 3E Basic, Bestiary, and Dinosaurs, it seems that oxen are
hard to beat when it comes to ST to size/weight. Of course Basic has
them at ST 80 while Bestiary gives ST 40-80. Basic also has a higher
weight, so maybe that evens out.

Dinosaurs often gives ST and size with a "+" notation, while weight
is more often a range. To calculate ratios I have to use the lower
values.

                ST/Hex ST/lb.
Oxen 27 0.032
Apatosaurus 10 0.0083
Triceratops 13 0.017
Alamosaurus 10 0.015
Tyrannosaurus 8 0.013

Is it true that mammals are that more effective? The size ratios
could be explained by the long tails, but the weight ratios are
comparable. Also, oxen are the ones where GURPS has rules on the
daily fodder requirements, from High Tech.

I was thinking that the Evil Overlords will encourage relatively
large vehicles for their subjects. They want a village to bring
their surplus grain to the palace or a mine, they don't want
itinerant peddlers.

On another subject, it seems that a human-drawn sledge with a stone
block (think of cinematic depictions of pyramid building) are too
easy to haul.

50 humans with ST 10 each generate 10 kW motive power. A stone
block 5' by 5' by 15' is about 24 tons if I got my maths right. Add
another 6 tons for the sledge, and the calculated top speed on good
ground is 3 mph.

Any comments?

Regards,
Onno
