Both work. In a wargame or RPG they work, but in reality one might be more used than another for TL or political or like reassons, also who are you fighting?

MI is impressive to a point but a DROP ship is even more impressive?

We have several groups in the US military have much the same jobs to a point.

SEALs
RANGERs
DELTA FORCE
FORCE RECON or .. have much the same or similar missions but may have different ways/means/tools and like to do it.
Yes there is some differences but ...
Cause of who is their parent service, as well as equipment available, but also political reasons they might not get the weapons they want or need or should have. Tactics and more..

Show of Force or quick in an out, political reasons or real tactical or strategic reasons, not always..

Marines came out of the NAVY and was best for the local area when your 1000 miles from home and you need an Infantry way of doing things..

Hello everybody,

it always appeared clear to me that battlesuits in a TL12 superscience
setting ride down in dropships. I have a draft which should do 10 G in
space and 10,000 mph at sea level. The design is still a few tons
overweight and I wondered if I had been trying too much.

What's wrong with the Heinlein MI idea? individual drop capsules,
with LOTS of stealth and noisy distractions? Dragon's Teeth and
Dazzlers, and HARM.
