Given the increase in targeting systems, I can see first round hits being fairly reliable. >> > It would be the battlesuit equivalent >> >of a grenade launcher, not the equivalent of a rifle. >> >> I designed two this morning, 80mm and 50mm, both low-powered and >> with extremely short barrels. More than twice the WPS of my blaster (which > has a lower penetration, but still enough). Note that 20mm rounds are more than twice the wps of 7.62mm rounds, but 20mm cannons still replaced 7.62mm MGs on fighters. >> >I'm thinking about a 5mm railgun with 3,000 rounds, a 5.12-MJ >> >blaster (6d*24) with power cells for 175 shots, and 36 pounds >> >of rockets or missiles -- could be six 6-lb. missiles, four >> >9-lb. missiles, or a single 36-lb. missile. >> >> Can the 5mm penetrate suit armor at TL10? > > My suit has DR 360, but there will be softer targets on the > battlefield which do not rate the big guns. DR 360 laminate? So I figure 6dx20 for reliable penetration (given the curve of 6d6), so that works out to: 6dx7(3) for APFSDS, 6dx4(10) HEAT or 6dx8(5) HEDP required to hole a suit.
