A solid prosecuting attorney would make mincemeat out of you, me, and
99.99% of the population.
There is so much involved in the modern prosecuting regime, everything
from discovery to merits of litigation to the litigation itself to
subsequent appeals, that only a "fool" would even attempt to defend
themselves without counsel.
Having spent a year in law school and seen how lawsuits evolve and are
resolved, it isn't a pretty thing and your own counsel may (at times) be
as much your adversary as the other side.
I hope that for Doug and Dan's sake this doesn't turn into anything ugly,
emotionally strapping, financially costly, and is resolved as quickly and
as bloodless as is possible.

necessarily prevail and, at times, the costs (and not only money ones) may
be so high that it is hardly worth the effort.
That's where the art of compromise comes in, and good attorneys (even if
they don't initially show their hand) have this in mind (on both sides)
when they take on a case.
Keep in mind that, in many instances, the attorneys know each other and
have more in common with each other than they do with their clients.
If this plays out via the legal systems, we may be on Ver 11 or 13 of We
