I wish they'd sue me. I would love to face them in court!

Darrell,
I will be happy to sign an online petition in this case as I did in
the Serotek case. However, I'm not sure how much it helped in that
case since Serotek basically gave FS what it wanted and renamed
their products. I certainly wouldn't want to see a similar
settlement in this case. We don't want to start losing superior
screen reader features because of a lawsuit settlement.
It looks like FS is just trying to slow down the development of
Window-Eyes because they see the handwriting on the wall. They
obviously know that GW Micro is using a different technique to
implement their PlaceMarker feature since the FS method of counting
HTML tags breaks down when the page changes, and GW Micro's method
of finding a string of text on a page works regardless of changes.
I guess FS is not too concerned about the opinions of blind
consumers since they were willing to file another lawsuit against
their competition so soon after the last one, but hopefully, the
results of this one will be quite different.

Hello J.J.,
I am aware of at least two cases where an online petition was helpful in
resolving concerns:
1. My CAPTCHA petition back in 2006 helped to encourage Google to roll out
their audio alternative.
2. The Save Serotek petition was helpful in pressuring FS to settle that
lawsuit last year.
I know these things from sources I consider to be quite reliable.

I've never seen much success with online petitions, unfortunately.
I'd be curious if the ACB or NFB would do anything, though FS is a major
financial contributor to both.

Hello Everyone,
What are your thoughts about an online petition, similar to the Serotek
case
last year?

Seeing that this is a public forum, I would like to recommend some ideas.
Besides wishing GW luck with their legal issue, I would propose that
there is something that we, as users, can do. Here are a few thoughts.
1. Aproach NFB and ACB to see if they would be willing to condemn this
action. Hopefully, in the form of a resolution.
2. Spread word far and wide using as many outlets for blindness issues
as possible.
3. Call, email and/or postal mail FS and let them know how you feel.
4. Avoid FS products where possible. Also, recommend to others that
they do the same.
5. At conventions or seminars, avoid FS booths.
These are strictly my thoughts.
