This discussion reminds me of something that took place a year or so back.

Here in Phoenix the city comes around 4 times a year to pick up bulk trash. Generally people put out appliances, furniture, or anything else that is difficult to personally take to the dump.

I put out an electric stove, old hot water tank, a couple old couches, 2 or 3 aluminum ladders and foot stools, a washing machine, and various other large goodies. I also put out 2 tower PC's(less hard drives), 2 printers, a scanner, 4 or 5 old monitors, a couple keyboards and mice, as well as boxes containing old software.

Enterprising souls come around ahead of the city to root around in everyone's stuff. They take anything that they think they can sell, perhaps for scrap, or perhaps refurbish. Well, everything except the computer related stuff disappeared in personal pickup trucks and vans.

So, when the city's front end loader and dump truck finally arrived, nothing wwas left in my front yard but the computer gear. The sound of a front end loader crunching printers, scanners, keyboards and the like is very impressive.

The moral of this true story is that it is really difficult to even give away older computer hardware. No one wants it!
