You can buy a small external speaker and use that to raise the volume.
The one's I use are the On Tour speakers by jbl and they are priced
somewhere around $39 on amazon.com but I'm sure also available
elsewhere.
You can also find small speakers at radio shack.
They really do make a difference both in the volume level and the sound
quality. You plug them into the headphone jack on the sense, and some of
them are battery powered so you get lots of volume if you need it.

outside noise. Someone mentioned something to make the volume higher
