Perfectly said. Further more We would do a blog post about it on hp.o
if we decided to include the theme in core, with all the credits due
to Squareweave.

I agree and would recommend, that any plugin or theme in -extras not
include any public facing attribution, ie. in theme output; admin
would be fine.

For themes however, this is debatable. It would certainly encourage
more themers to host their themes there. If we do allow attribution on
the public facing side,we should do a clear and consise description of
what is allowed. Even to the extent of how big it can be and where it
can be. We should also require that the links be rel="nofollow"ed.
