No, it wasn't a vote. Discussion is good if it can lead to consensus,
I don't think this is something we should rush into.

I meant what I said, though perhaps "disappear" was too strong.

A successful addons directory would mean there would be less pressure
to include things in core, and I would hope that at least some of the
plugins currently in core could be removed. Further, there would be a
good place where people can get exposure for their addons, with
attribution, so inclusion in core with attribution wouldn't be as big
a draw.
