I think the JSC means that every Christian denomination has a bias in favor of
its own translation or version.

It's not that they're worried about being accused of a Jewish bias.  Rather,
the term "Hebrew Bible" is meaningless in a translated, Christian version.

Subject: Re: [ha-Safran] RDA and the Bible

Anyway... I found an example. It looks like the answer is that if it is a whole
bible, it gets called Old or New testament, but if it is just a book of the
bible, like just Genesis, then it does not get called Old or New Testament.
Which still seems odd to me... So the way the RDA powerpoint slide quoted
bellow says "Multiple biases!" means that the JSC is afraid that Christians
will claim a Jewish bias if we designate a Hebrew or Jewish
version of the bible.

From a random flier on RDA examples
(www.rda-jsc.org/docs/RDA-Examples-MDLA-May2011-rev.doc):
"4.a. Testament
RDA record:

130 0# $a Bible. $p Old Testament.
130 0# $a Bible. $p New Testament.

AACR2:

130 0# $a Bible. $p O.T.
130 0# $a Bible. $p N.T.

When the authorized access point is for a book or group
of books of the Bible, omit the name of the testament.

4.b. Book
or group of books
RDA:

130 0# $a Bible. $p Genesis.
130 0# $a Bible. $p Gospels.

AACR2:

130 0# $a Bible. $p O.T. $p
Genesis.
130 0# $a Bible. $p N.T. $p
Gospels."
Quoted from an RDA Powerpoint (www.rda-jsc.org/docs/rda-ajl-20090707.pdf):
"The Hebrew Bible is still named
as a part of the Christian Bible,
i.e., “Bible. Old Testament”
-JSC rejected a proposed alternative instruction to use “Hebrew Bible”
-Concern about consistency within a single shared authority file
-Recognition of the complexity of the various canons of the Bible

Names of books and parts of the Bible are to be taken from the Authorized
Version [6.23.2.9.2]
-Christian
-Protestant
-English
-Anglican
-Multiple biases!

Analysis of the Biblical texts
-In FRBR terms, what are the fundamental works?
-Are the “testaments”fundamental works or are they aggregates?
-Is the Christian Old Testament the same work as the Hebrew
 Bible?

Naming conventions for individual books of the Bible
-Is there a need for a consistent name for each book, regardless of the context?
-Does that name need to be structured hierarchically, e.g.,
Bible. Genesis vs. Genesis (Biblical text)"
