@dr. mckay - you're mistaken if you believe server ops have a "right" to impose undesired files and processes on clients. It is illegal per international law to do so. The only exception would be for server ops to provide a terms of usage document prior to providing access and allowing the client to accept or reject the terms outlined in this document.
