I agree with Rowaldhelicon. For me, as a serverop that runs ads(on a server in the top 30), it is extremely hard to be unbiased about the thing. From one point, yes, the ads annoy a few people, and some have expressed concern - for whom I have disabled them. From the other side, however, there's the finite wallet issue, and only ads are capable of supporting a disorganised community like mine without making me run a loss, even though getting people entertained and having a community is rewarding.
Back in the day(say, 2012), there were tons of regulars and donators. Now, people just don't. That's what makes me very biased towards this specific question of advertisments on servers. I think Matthias is also biased from his point of view, being on the receiving end of the advertisements.
