I'd have to agree with the "modded" ranking servers being privately hosted to be invalid for global ranking, those could cheat the system etc.
Downsides on having only "GPS partners" or "valve" hosting them: - nobody banning cheaters, hackers, farmers, unfriendlies etc. - Lets face it, VAC isn't cutting it to keep it a nice place. Already seen on their own servers for TF2 etc. - Communities would try to rent from said partners, and then see quickly that they pay way more for such servers then if they would host themselves, and admin themselves. Seen that on several communities already, they stopped with such after a couple months. Just cos they couldn't fully support to do ban, admin it etc. I'd think that it should not be a problem to do allow game communities to have their own ranked "sphere" with 1 or more servers. Which wouldn't rank global, but only to their own rank cloud. If they mess up with bad stuff, they lose their players. If they don't mess up, their players would become real regulars in their community, playing only on their servers. Only downside I see is competitive, but thats already dumb with ranked with forms of rewards/unlocks etc. in my opinion. >________________________________ >From: Emil Larsson <[email protected]> >To: Half-Life dedicated Linux server mailing list ><[email protected]> >Sent: Friday, 26 August 2011, 15:32 >Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] CS:GO info - VALVe becoming evil? > >Not to say the various gameplay affecting mods.
