Peter Damm was principal horn of the Gewandhaus Orchestra from 1959 to 1969.

I still have this recording on the Vanguard Cardinal label and will listen
to it again over the weekend. I remember it as a performance that drew
attention to the Symphony's Des Knaben Wunderhorn Songs elements and
didn't rush through the last movement.

Speaking of Mahler - On July July 25 & 26 we will be performing the
chamber setting of Das Lied von der Erde at the Santa Fe Chamber Music
Festival. This arrangement was begun by Arnold Schoenberg in 1921 and
completed by completed Rainer Riehn in 1983. It is scored for flute, oboe,
clarinet, bassoon, horn, 2 violins, viola, cello, bass, piano, celeste /
harmonium, and 2 percussion.

The singers will be Susan Graham, mezzo-soprano and Paul Groves, tenor.
Davis Zinman will conduct. Julie Landsman will play horn.

Cheers,
