I'll agree 100% with Hans on Bernstein's Mahler interpretations. I never played 5 with him but did 1 (many times), 2 and 6 with the NYP. The other truly great Mahler conductor I worked for was Klaus Tennstedt. Did 3, 4, and 7 with him in MN. I think he may have recorded them all with the London Philharmonic and they should be available. There is also a Karajan/Berlin recording from the early 70's that is excellent. Solti/CSO is great.
