The Scherchen/Philadelphia recording is from the orchestra's 1st ever Mahler 5 performances. Unfortunately, Scherchen takes a bunch of cuts, including parts of the scherzo IIRC. His excuse was that the work might be too long & complex for Philadelphia audiences. However, the Boston Symphony under Leinsdorf played the symphony complete only a few weeks earlier on tour in Philadelphia! ----------- Eric Nagamine _______________________________________________ post: [email protected] unsubscribe or set options at https://pegasus.memphis.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/options/horn/archive%40jab.org
