I think altering the GUI of a panorama tool
to improve a "special case" that isn't a
panorama would be a poor GUI design approach
for the majority of users.

I think what you need is better addressed
using other tools, more directly intended
for your task.

In particular, if you shoot using a tripod,
alignment becomes a non issue, and your photos
will probably be sharper as a side benefit.
