Here's something that I would like to see considered:

For the most part, the Icelandic Horses do not show much gait at liberty.  That 
leaves gait under saddle... so, if they only gait under saddle, with a 
rider.... does that mean the horses (the breed) is being bred for natural 
gait.... or for weak backs?!?!?

If there were "in hand" gait classes, this would *certainly* help the breed 
maintain natural gait (of course, no tight nosebands, shoes, or boots, in 
the in hand gait classes!).
