My wife and I have owned Macs for 8 years. We now have 4 in our house. I
will give you a run down of the problems we've had in that time
1. LC475 (purchased 1993)
hard disk died after 3+ years; power switch broke
cost to repair $565 Aust
2. Performa 5260 purchased Jan 1997 has done over 15,000 hours of work
and still strong but slowly!
modem broke after about 3 years not replaced because not needed
3 iMac purchased March 2000 used 2-6 hours a day
modem broke in February 2001 replaced under regular warranty
4. iBook purchased October 2000 has not missed a beat.
Total cost of repairs for 4 Macs in 8 years= c. $US300!
BTW i also take an educated risk in other ways: I don't use ****any
virus software***** at all! Ever! Not since middle of '97
I have only had the AutoStart worm in May 1998. It caused no damage and
was easily deleted.
The only Microsoft stuff I use: Outlook Express and Explorer and only
when I have to.
