Tom, I have to tell you that it is basically "Caveat emptor" or buyer
beware. If you didn't know that your iMac was something that could be
taken apart and parts like video cards replaced, etc. then you just didn't
do your homework. If that is what you want you should have bought (or can
now buy) a G4 or G3 tower. They are much easier to get into than probably
any PC and replacing parts or is a piece of cake. If you haven't seen one
you should visit a local store that will show you how easy it is to take it
apart, etc.
True plug and play was invented with the mac, long before anyone had that
option on windows.

You are also not the average user. iMacs are basically made for most of us
that surf, do email, use Photoshop, other great graphics programs, publish,
etc., etc. These computers IMHO are not made for overclocking or tinkering
beyond upgrading hard drives, ram, replacing batteries, etc. They don't
have PCI slots for adding peripherals. If we want to do that we add thru
USB or firewire components.

Believe me 9.0.4 or 9.1 is stable if you aren't using beta programs. I
rarely have my computer hang up anymore. I also know how to maintain the
program by running DFA, trashing certain prefs. from time to time, running
Techtool Pro (if I were starting today Diskwarrior would be the first 3rd
party program that I would buy), rebuilding the desktop, etc. All of these
are much preferrable to running a windows machine and seeing the blue
screen "fatal or error exception" (or whatever, I conveniently forget the
title of the screen) on your Windows machine.

OS X is the future, it just isn't there yet, but surf over to Macsurfer
(www.macsurfer.com) at the end of the day and see what new software is on
the horizon at MacWorld in NY. I'm sure you won't see a Mac emualator for
any windoze machine because it won't be stable enough. :>)
BTW, how's the linux and what machine are you running it on. You might
want to answer that off list as I'm sure most here don't care about the
specifics.
