You don't. You CAN host it on your own machine.
Naively, I thought it was just a matter of designing my site, then having my computer open to receive input 7/24 to operate as a website. Even if that were possible, I can imagine hackers using such opportunities to zap me whenever possible.
What, you think you're running windows or something?
Looks like paying a fee for a site from .mac, yahoo or lycos, or even cox, is the logical way to go.
For most poeple in most situations, .Mac beats most other solutions.
